The math
How to convert APR to EAR
Compounding is a power, not a multiplication: EAR = (1 + periodic rate)ⁿ − 1, with n periods in the year. A nominal APR is simply the periodic rate times n, which is why it always reads lower.
Example: 1 APR = 1.0046 EAR.
