Solubility converter
Convert solubility between weight per volume and molarity. Pick the substance first: molarity needs its molar mass.
That's about the same as table salt. In a 250 mL glass of water, about 90 g would dissolve.
What it means
How much dissolves?
Solubility is strongly temperature-dependent. Published figures are usually at 20 or 25 °C, and most solids dissolve far better when hot.

Three things worth knowing
-
M = g/L ÷ molar mass
360 g/L of salt divided by 58.44 g/mol is 6.2 M. The bigger the molecule, the lower the molarity for the same weight.
-
Why per 100 mL
Handbooks settled on grams per 100 mL because it reads directly as a percentage for water, and because a 100 mL flask was the standard glassware.
-
Solution or solvent
Grams per 100 mL of water is not the same as grams per 100 mL of solution once a lot has dissolved: the volume changes as the solid goes in.

About solubility
Solubility is usually tabulated as grams per 100 mL of water. Chemistry wants it as a molarity instead, and converting needs the molar mass: 36 g/100 mL of salt is 6.2 M, but the same weight of sucrose is only 1.05 M.
