Crop yield converter
Convert bushels per acre to tonnes per hectare. Pick the crop first: a bushel is a volume, so each crop weighs differently.
That's 1.03× as productive as a US corn crop, while the world record yield is 3.5× higher. A hectare at that rate feeds roughly 75.32 people for a year.
What it means
How big is that harvest?
Bushel weights are the trade standards at standard moisture. A wet crop weighs more per bushel and is discounted accordingly.

Three things worth knowing
-
Corn: bu/ac × 0.0628 = t/ha
So a 180 bu/ac corn crop is 11.3 t/ha. For wheat and soybeans the factor is 0.0673, because their bushels are heavier.
-
The bushel is a basket
It began as a literal container of about 35 liters. The trade later fixed a standard weight per crop so grain could be sold by the truckload without measuring volume.
-
One factor for every crop
Using corn’s factor on oats overstates the harvest by three quarters. Always convert with the crop in hand.

Background
About yield units
US farming reports bushels per acre; the rest of the world uses tonnes per hectare. The two cannot be converted without knowing the crop, because a bushel measures volume and a bushel of corn weighs 25.4 kg while a bushel of oats weighs 14.5 kg.
