Concrete bag calculator
Find how many bags of premixed concrete fill a volume, or what volume a pile of bags will make.
That's 5.1× as much as a garden step, while a 10 m path is 1.31× more. Once set it weighs about 1.835 tonnes (4,045 lb).
What it means
How much concrete is that?
Bag yields as printed on US premix (80 lb = 0.60 ft³). Metric bags scale by weight; check your brand. Buy 5–10 % extra for waste and uneven ground.

Three things worth knowing
-
45, 60 and 90
One cubic yard takes 45 bags of 80 lb, 60 of 60 lb or 90 of 40 lb.
-
Portland cement
Joseph Aspdin patented Portland cement in 1824, named after Portland stone. Bagged dry mixes followed when Sakrete opened in 1936.
-
Weight is not volume
An 80 lb bag does not make 80 lb worth of space: it makes 0.6 ft³, a box about 10 inches on each side.

About bagged concrete
Bags of premixed concrete state how much they make once mixed with water: an 80 lb bag yields 0.60 ft³, a 60 lb bag 0.45 ft³, a 40 lb bag 0.30 ft³. A cubic yard (27 ft³) needs 45 bags of 80 lb.
For more than a cubic yard or two, ready-mix from a truck is usually cheaper and much less work.
