Molarity converter
Convert between molar, millimolar and micromolar: the units of every laboratory solution and blood test.
That's about the same as stomach acid. That is 0.1 mol in every liter of solution.
What it means
How crowded is that?
Molarity is per liter of solution, not per liter of solvent. The difference matters for concentrated mixtures.

Three things worth knowing
-
Molarity × molar mass = g/L
A 0.5 mol/L glucose solution is 0.5 × 180 = 90 g/L. That one multiplication moves between chemistry and the kitchen scale.
-
Why not just grams?
Reactions happen molecule to molecule, not gram to gram. Counting in moles makes the recipe for a reaction come out in whole numbers.
-
Molarity or molality?
Molarity is per liter of solution and shifts with temperature; molality is per kilogram of solvent and does not. Lab reports mean molarity unless they say otherwise.

Background
About molar concentration
Molarity counts moles of substance in each liter of solution. A 1 molar solution has 6.022×10²³ particles per liter. Clinical results use mmol/L, which is why blood glucose reads around 5.
