Weight converter
Convert between grams, kilograms, tonnes, ounces, pounds and stone, then put your weight on the scales against cats, bowling balls, cars and elephants.
That's about the same as an adult. On the Moon the same mass would weigh only 25.64 lb.
What it means
How heavy is that?
Reference weights are typical values. Strictly these are masses; on Earth the two are used interchangeably.

Three things worth knowing
-
Kilos to pounds, doubled
Double the kilograms and add 10%: 70 kg becomes 140 + 14 = 154 lb. The exact answer is 154.3 lb, so the trick is good enough for everyday use.
-
The kilogram lost its lump
Until 2019 the kilogram was a platinum-iridium cylinder in a vault near Paris, and it was slowly losing atoms. It is now defined by a constant of nature that cannot drift.
-
Two different tons
A metric tonne is 1,000 kg, a US short ton is 907 kg and a UK long ton is 1,016 kg. Always check which ton a figure means before comparing.

Background
About weight units
Everyday “weight” is really mass. Most countries weigh in kilograms and grams; the US uses pounds and ounces, and the UK still gives body weight in stone.
All of them are defined from the kilogram, which since 2019 has been fixed by the Planck constant instead of a metal cylinder near Paris.
