Shoe size converter
Convert between EU, UK, US and foot length in centimeters. Choose men’s or women’s sizing first, because the US and UK scales differ between them.
That's 1.08× as big as an average women’s foot, while an average men’s foot is 1.02× bigger. That fits a foot about 26.5 cm long.
What it means
How long is that foot?
Sizing is a convention, not a standard: brands differ by half a size or more. Measure your foot in centimeters and treat these as a starting point.

Three things worth knowing
-
US to UK: subtract one
For men, UK = US − 1. For women, UK = US − 2. EU is roughly US + 33 for men, but it drifts, so check the centimeters.
-
The barleycorn
In 1324 Edward II defined an inch as three barleycorns laid end to end. Shoe sizes still step by one barleycorn, which is why they go up in thirds of an inch.
-
Men’s and women’s numbers differ
A US women’s 8 is a US men’s 6.5, but the same foot. Converting without saying which scale you started from is the usual reason shoes arrive too big.

About shoe sizes
EU sizes count Paris points, two thirds of a centimeter, measured on the shoe last rather than the foot. UK and US sizes count barleycorns, a third of an inch, from different starting points, and the women’s scale is offset again.
Only centimeters (Mondopoint) measures the foot itself, which is why athletic brands print it inside the tongue.
