Convert between bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes and terabytes, including the binary KiB, MiB and GiB, then watch the file download over dial-up, 4G and fiber.
That's 100× as big as a song, while a CD is 1.4× bigger. On a 50 Mbps connection that downloads in 1.333 minutes.
What it means
How long would that take to download?
Download times assume you get the full advertised speed, which real connections rarely deliver.

Three things worth knowing
-
Why your 1 TB disk looks smaller
The maker counts 1 TB as a trillion bytes. Windows divides by 1,024 three times and reports 931 GiB, labelled “GB”. Nothing is missing; the units differ by 9.95%.
-
Bits, bytes and your internet bill
Connections are sold in megabits per second, files are measured in megabytes, and there are 8 bits in a byte. A 100 Mbps line downloads at about 12.5 MB per second.
-
kB or KB?
The official symbols are kB for 1,000 bytes and KiB for 1,024. Plain “KB” is ambiguous and means either one depending on who wrote it.

Background
About data units
There are two families of data units. Decimal ones step by 1,000: a kilobyte is 1,000 bytes, a megabyte a million. Binary ones step by 1,024: a KiB, MiB or GiB.
Drive makers sell in decimal units, Windows reports in binary ones, and that single mismatch is why a “1 TB” disk shows up as 931 GB.
