Energy price converter
Convert an energy price between per kWh, per therm, per MMBtu, per MWh, per GJ and cents per kWh. The currency stays the same.
Nothing on our list is smaller: European wholesale gas (€) is 1.03× pricier. At that price, charging a 60 kWh car battery from empty costs 2.047.
What it means
Is that cheap or dear?
Comparison figures are typical European prices in euros in 2026; your bill depends on market, tariff and taxes. Units convert in any currency.

Three things worth knowing
-
Per MWh ÷ 1000 = per kWh
A wholesale price of 80 per MWh is 0.08 per kWh, or 8 cents.
-
Why gas is sold in therms
Britain’s gas boards billed in therms (100,000 BTU) from the 1920s; the US kept the unit and trades gas in million BTU, ten therms.
-
Price per kWh of gas ≠ per kWh of heat
A boiler wastes 5–15% and a heat pump turns 1 kWh of electricity into 3 or more of heat. Compare delivered heat, not just the bill’s unit.

Background
About energy prices
Gas is traded per MMBtu in the US, per MWh in Europe and billed per therm or kWh at home, so comparing prices means converting units, not currencies.
One therm is 29.3 kWh and one MMBtu is 293 kWh. A gas price of 3 per MMBtu is about 1 cent per kWh, in whatever currency it was quoted.
